INCI Name: Glutathione
CAS: 70-18-8
Molecular Formula:C10H17N3O6S
Glutathione is a powerful antioxidant and can interfere the process of melanin synthesis, making it an effective ingredient for anti-aging and skin-brightening products.
Product Information:
Glutathione (GSH) is a potent antioxidant universally found in every cell of the body. Glutathione plays a crucial role in protecting cells from oxidative stress and damage caused by free radicals, toxins, and heavy metals. Moreover, glutathione can inhibit the production of melanin, the pigment responsible for dark spots and uneven skin tone. Therefore, glutathione is widely used in topical skincare products to help brighten uneven skin tone, reduce signs of aging, and protect skin from oxidative damages.

Efficacy:

Experiment conditions: DPPH is stable in organic solvents, and its alcohol solution is purple. When free radicals are captured, the solution lightens, and the absorbance change quantifies DPPH content, showing free radical scavenging ability.
Results: Glutathione can effectively scavenge DPPH, highlighting its antioxidant properties.

Experimental conditions: Melanocytes; Blank control: Complete culture medium; Negative control: ultraviolet radiation; Experimental group: Glutathione
Results: Glutathione could effectively inhibit the production of melanin, and the inhibitory effect was concentration-dependent.

Results: Glutathione could effectively inhibit the activity of tyrosinase, and the inhibitory effect was concentration-dependent.
Safety:

Glutathione has no cytotoxicity within the tested concentration (0−1000 ppm).
Formulation Guidelines:
– Recommended level of use: 0.1%−0.5%
– Glutathione is highly soluble in water and remains stable in pH 4–6
